Impactwear® shields One of the most simple and effective methods to reduce the risk of fall related hip fractures has been the development of hip protector shields contained in specially designed underwear. Following biomechanical experiments, various shield materials have been developed to either absorb and/or deflect the impact energy away from vulnerable bones in a fall onto the hip area. The results of various clinical trials of hip protectors have now determined and confirmed that hip protectors are very effective in reducing a hip fracture. To provide a total solution, there are two styles of Impactwear® Hip Protector Shields. The Firm Support Shield consists of a 'high tech‘ reinforced thermoplastic composite, enabling thin but very strong and effective hip protection. In addition, the Flexible Support Shield is softer and more flexible which makes these shields more suitable for night time use. Both styles of shield are moulded to fit the curved surface of the body and are held in place by specially designed underwear.
