Middlemore Hospital, Auckland
Falls in the elderly are usually multifactorial in origin and the person with recurrent falls will need a comprehensive assessment, initially by the General Practitioner and with the help of the health services for the elderly, if required. The reversible causes including the environmental factors need to be addressed for each individual elderly person.

The hip protectors have been well researched and have been shown to prevent hip fractures, when worn at the time of a fall, especially in people living in residential care settings. With increased longevity in the population, we have one more weapon in preventing hip fractures, which are assoicated with high morbidity and mortality.

I recommend Hip Protectors to older people, who are at risk of falls.

I work in a facility where we have a lot of residents that are at risk of falling, either because they have a decline in their mental capacity or a deteriorating physical condition. It is important to encourage and maintain what level of mobility they still have and hip protectors provide that extra insurance against injury should they have a fall. We urge all of our residents to wear them and have no trouble convincing families that they play an important role in helping to keep them safe. I have been an advocate of them since their inception and continue to promote them having seen the difference they have made to preventing hip fractures.

Several of our residents are "high fall risk" cases and we have purchased Impactwear Hip Protectors for them. They have found them comfortable and the nursing staff have not found it a problem supervising the wearing of the briefs.

Sheryl Samuel, Nurse Manager

I have been wearing my hip protective underwear everyday and find them very comfortable - in fact sometimes I have to tap myself on the hips just to remind myself as I don't even notice them when doing my daily activities. I have already had one hip replacement so I feel the extra protection is just what I need.

Pearl (87 years old)

I recently went to visit family in America and wore my hip protective briefs while travelling, they were so comfortable I forgot I even had them on. I am 77 and have had two falls resulting in broken bones but value my active life very much and the briefs give me the confidence especially on stairs.

Eileen (77 years old)

My Aunt fell and I was so grateful that she was wearing her hip pads. The pad has been completely broken by the fall but my aunt, who is in her nineties, is right as rain and has been left with only a bruise. It could have been so much worse.

Mrs Dickson

Before using Impactwear Limb Protectors I would often end up with scratches and bruises on my arms and legs which were a real nuisance. I can now go shopping and do my gardening without having to worry about my skin. And because they are so comfortable and look good, I am happy to wear them even when I go out to town.

Colleen (71 years old)

My legs frequently required dressings because of cuts and scratches, and these would take a long time to heal. Now I wear my Impactwear Limb Protectors every day and don't have this problem.
